Career Center Consulting/Finance Immersion to Chicago

Curious about the world of consulting or finance?

Wondering what it takes to be a consultant? Want to know exactly what it means to be in "finance"?

Now’s your chance! Join The Career Center for the Consulting/Finance Immersion on March 4th on Spring Break in the Windy City!

The Career Center announces a unique opportunity for students to get an insider look into both the worlds of consulting and finance from the people who know it best. On Monday, March 3rd, Career Center Staff will travel with a small group of students to the Chicago offices of Laurus Strategies and Morningstar who have generously opened their doors to meet with Michigan students, answer their questions and give them a sneak peak of their practices. Learn more about both companies, what a typical “day in the life” looks like for as an employee, what the heck a “case interview” is, and tips to help you find success in both fields.

Transportation by bus to Chicago on Monday, March 3rd and back to Ann Arbor Tuesday, March 4th will be available to students for a small fee. More details about the day's event and trip logistics will be provided to participants who are selected.

Career Center Marketing/Sales Immersion to Chicago

The Career Center announces a unique opportunity for students to get an insider's look into this industry from the people who know it best. Chicago Apartment Finders (and one other company yet to be determined) will generously opened their doors to University of Michigan students to learn more about their company, what a typical day in the life looks like, and tips to help you learn about and find success in the fields of marketing and sales.

On Tuesday, March 4th over Spring Break Career Center staff will be in Chicago to guide participants through an on-site visit to the offices of both Chicago Apartment Finders and one more company (name will be posted as soon as possible)

This is an all-day event and students must be able to be present in Chicago to participate. Transportation will be provided at a small fee to students from Ann Arbor on Monday, March 3rd and will return from Chicago, Tuesday, March 4th.

Career Center Immersion to Teach for America's Chicago headquarters

The Career Center is traveling to Teach for America's Chicago headquarters! This half day immersion will be on Tuesday, March 4th in Chicago.

Apply for this Immersion if you are any of the following:
- thinking about exploring the Non-profit sector
- have teaching as a possibility for your future
- are curious about Teach for America
- or would like to learn more about the administration side of a larger non-profit

The University of Michigan was the fourth largest contributor of graduating seniors to Teach for America in 2013. TFA has a strong relationship with UM and has graciously opened their office doors to give students a taste of what it would be like to work not only in the non-profit sector, but as a TFA core member.

Travel will be provided Monday, March 3rd to Chicago and back to Ann Arbor on Tuesday, March 4th for a small fee. Students are responsible for their own overnight accommodations.

Call for Student Participation: Delhi University Innovation Projects

The Center for South Asian Studies is pleased to announce the opportunity for UM undergraduate students to participate in Delhi University Innovation Projects. This is a research opportunity for UM students. Through this program students will participate this semester, from Ann Arbor, in an interdisciplinary research project being conducted by student-faculty teams at Delhi University in India. Participating students will have an opportunity to go to India this summer to meet with their Indian research team.

The International Institute Individual Fellowships

Mosaic Taiwan Fellowship Exchange Program

The Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs has inaugurated a fellowship exchange program for young students and professionals with interest in global affairs. Mosaic Taiwan is a fellowship exchange program for emerging U.S. leaders wishing to gain firsthand experience of Taiwan, a vibrant Asian democracy where traditional Chinese culture has prospered.

Mosaic Taiwan 2014 runs from June 15th to July 5th. The program is truly immersive, with home stays and community service activities rounding out tours, team-building and leadership development exercises, workshops, lectures and dialogues. Mosaic Taiwan fellows will have the opportunity to explore the beauty of Taiwan’s natural environment and to better understand its culture and society through exchanges with local leaders from various fields. Taiwan’s own young leaders will gain as well from the exchange of views with their overseas counterparts.

The fellowship program is only open to U.S. citizens aged 20 to 35. Our ideal candidates are high-achieving young people with a genuine interest in global affairs and a personal commitment to excellence – exactly the kind of young people fostered by your university. Survey Research Center Summer Internship Program

The Survey Research Center is now accepting applications for the 2014 SRC Summer Internship Program at The University of Michigan.

We invite you to apply to the program and/or share the information with students regarding this initiative. This year represents the 12th year of the program.  The SRC Summer Internship Program is a 10 week, 20 - 40 hour per week paid position for students with an interest in social science research. Interns will be typically assigned to an ongoing research study, attend seminars /courses on principles of survey research, and participate in a research symposium. The Internship Program is a diversity initiative which represents an additional strategy for the Center to build long term relations with promising scholars, employees, and college students. Interns will be encouraged to apply for full-time positions or educational opportunities at the Center upon completion of the internship program.

Undergraduates that have completed at least their sophomore year and 1st year graduate students with an interest in social science research are eligible to apply.

Social Impact Challenge Finals

The 2014 Social Impact Challenge focuses on systems transformation strategies for equitable growth in Detroit.  The Nonprofit and Public Management Center has partnered with Detroit Future City (DFC), which is leading implementation of the DFC Strategic Framework, a comprehensive plan to achieve fiscal sustainability and improve quality of life for all Detroit neighborhoods.

During the Challenge, multidisciplinary teams of graduate students will receive a problem statement, investigate a critical issue, and develop recommendations for action. Top teams will present to expert judges and Detroit Future City leadership for potential implementation and a $2500 cash prize!

The campus and local community is invited to attend the Social Impact Challenge Finals. Hear from Detroit leaders, learn about the proposed Challenge solutions, and participate in a networking reception.
