Volunteer for Project Healthy Schools

The University of Michigan’s Project Healthy Schools, in collaboration with community partners, strives to improve the present and future health of middle school students through school-based education and environmental initiatives.  This school-based program which focuses on physical activity and nutrition education relies on volunteers (aka Health Ambassadors) to encourage 6th grade students to make healthier choices! Volunteers must attend a two hour training where they become familiar with the 10 PHS hands-on lessons and network with other volunteers.

Fall teaching lasts for 10 weeks and starts in mid-September and ends in early December (there is also a winter session if the fall session does not fit your schedule). Each volunteer is assigned to an Ann Arbor Public School classroom that they visit once a week (11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.)  to teach PHS hands-on lessons for 10 weeks. Training to become a volunteer is two hours long and will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Wolverine Tower.

For more information contact Carole Durgy, Wellness Coordinator at beckca@med.umich.edu or  visit the PHS website and fill-out the volunteer form http://www.projecthealthyschools.org/involved/volunteer.html.
