Truman Scholarship Information Session

Wednesday, October 16, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Honors Lounge, 1330 Mason Hall

The Truman Scholarship, honoring the legacy of our 33rd present, is among the most prestigious scholarship opportunities for undergraduates who plan to pursue a career in public service (broadly construed).  Students are eligible to apply as juniors or third-year seniors.  Applicants for the Truman Scholarship must be in the top 25% of their class (at U-M this typically means a 3.7 GPA or better) and have an outstanding record of leadership and service in their curricular and co-curricular activities.

Truman Scholars receive $30,000 in support of their graduate studies as well as excellent mentoring and networking relationships with Truman alumni/ae.  Most Truman Scholars go on to top graduate programs in their field (often receiving additional funding support from those institutions).  Many become applicants for the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships in senior year.

Are you a potential Truman Scholar?  Please review the eligibility and selection criteria, as well as information about the application process on the Truman Scholarship Foundation's website.  If you think you may be interested in applying, or if you have questions about the scholarship, please contact U-M's faculty representative, Henry Dyson, at

Completed applications are due to Henry Dyson by November 22nd, 2013.  Potential nominees will be interviewed by U-M'sTruman Scholarship Committee and final nominees will be selected by the end of the year.
